Beads

Thermal beads are an innovative alternative to water in laboratory water baths and ice in ice buckets. These dry, metallic beads provide an eco-friendly, low-maintenance solution that significantly reduces the risk of water-borne microbial contamination. They are compatible with most general-purpose water baths and dry baths with centrally located heating elements but are not suitable for shaking baths, circulating baths, baths with float switches, or baths with depths less than 5 inches (13 cm) or greater than 8 inches (20 cm).

Beyond water bath applications, these thermal beads can replace aluminum blocks in dry baths and ice in ice buckets. They can also be used in containers placed inside ovens and incubators as an alternative to traditional sample racks. Their dry nature ensures samples remain protected from water-borne contaminants.

Maintaining the beads is simple; periodic cleaning with 70% ethanol is recommended to ensure longevity. For spills, they can be washed with mild detergent, rinsed, sprayed with ethanol, and thoroughly dried. However, strong acids, bases, bleach solutions, or corrosive detergents should be avoided, and autoclaving is not recommended.

Available in multiple sizes, including 0.75L, 2L, 4L, and 8L, these beads are a practical choice for various laboratory applications. By integrating them into lab protocols, researchers can enhance sample integrity, minimize contamination risks, and improve efficiency in temperature-sensitive processes.
